"I got my arm back"
My son had the pins removed from his elbow yesterday. He had fallen, dislocating his elbow and cracking the growth plate on his left arm about a month ago. (Just having a Father moment) I don't know if you've ever seen surgical pins being removed. They basically grab them with a pair of pliars (or surgical clamp) and pull them out... no drugs... no ice... just yank them out. My wife and I stood in the hall and could hear him scream and cry as they were removed. The receptionist at the clinic even came back, nearly in tears and gave my wife a hug saying "That's so sad. I hate to hear them cry like that." Not to sound sick or mean but I thought it was beautiful. A month before we'd spent the afternoon listening to the screams of my boy in pain, these where cries of healing. We could hear the doctor trying to calm his fears, when he got the first pin out he said "Look, this was in your arm" the screaming paused, we heard a "wow", clear as day, and then the screaming resumed. Afterwards we went to see his one of his Grandmothers at work where he proudly held out his pins (the doc let him keep them) and announced "Look! I got my arm back!" Life is kind of like that, isn't it.
